Women and Gender Equality Canada is the federal department responsible for advancing gender equality, including matters related to sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity or expression. It funds community organizations, supports research, and administers programs addressing gender-based violence and barriers to women's full participation in Canadian economic, social, and political life. Much of its work is carried out through funding provided to external organizations rather than through large internal operations.
